Workshops, Talks & Seminars, Oh My!
One of the questions I’m asked most frequently is how to get published. In the fifteen-plus years since I’ve been writing books, I’ve discovered that the desire to have a book in print with your name on it cuts across every demographic out there: age, sex, ethnicity, economic background, you name it.
Once I hear the question, it’s like someone pushed a button, and I’m off and running to spill the beans. I focus less on the writing itself and more on the realities and mechanics of the publishing industry as well as how best to slant both your idea and words to increase your chances of success. I’ve not only written books but also ran a small publishing company, developed publicity campaigns for other authors, designed books and covers, the whole kit and kaboodle.
I’ve given workshops and lectures at area schools and community programs and have taught classes. I don’t really pursue these opportunities, but welcome them as they arise, and I’d like to do more of them, especially in southern climes during a harsh northern New England winter…
If you run a writing workshop, teach at a school or college, run a book festival—or know someone who does—I’m all ears.
